Sample Preparation

Sample preparation is conducted by our experienced team of technicians at FLSmidth Dawson Metallurgical Labratory. Michael Terry helped Mr. Harmel "Bull" Dawson set up the laboratory back in 1977. Larry Amiker joined DML in 1980 and Shawn Hobbs has been with us since 1994. Their experience and attention to detail are corner stones of our laboratory.

Some of the sample preparation equipment available at DML are: a six (6) and four (4) inch jaw crusher, a laboratory rolls crusher and Sweco screen, to stage crush ore samples. A "V"cone blender is used to mix samples and rotary table splitters are used to make test charges that are consistent in grade. Three (3) different size table splitters are used, as required, for sample preparation, they are: a three (3) foot splitter, a 16 inch splitter and a three (3) inch micro-splitter. Jones splitters are also used on a regular basis. Additional sample preparation equipment includes: ring and puck pulverizers, a disc pulverizer, ro-taps and sieve screens from six (6) inches down to 25 microns (500 mesh) and drying ovens.
